Trend #4 - Focus on employee experience

Whilst discussions on improving the employee experience are not new, the increasingly competitive labour market is continuing to drive its importance and thus a focus for 2020. Attracting and retaining talent in completive labour markets is creating challenges given that the employee has ample choice on where and when they want to work.

So what is employee experience?

Denise Lee Yohn defines employee experience in Forbes (https://www.forbes.com/sites/deniselyohn/2018/01/02/2018-will-be-the-year-of-employee-experience), as "...the sum of all interactions a customer has with a company, then is the sum of everything an employee experiences throughout his or her connection to the organization -every employee interaction, from the first contact as a potential recruit to the last interaction after the end of employment." With this definition in mind, employee experience can be summarised as:

  1. An overall set of employee perceptions across time and touch points;

  2. A collection of environmental factors: cultural, physical, and technological; and,

  3. A broadening of traditional HR functions that recognises the correlation between employee engagement and customer experience.

Just as importantly, it is important to recognise that it is not:

  1. New and improved HR;

  2. Perks and parties;

  3. Treating employees as customers; and,

  4. Employee engagement.

Creating employee experience

Therefore, with this understanding of what employee experience is, the employer needs to create employee experiences which should be individualised, immediate, and intelligent. A critical element is to meld the emotional and factual elements to identify areas for improvement in the employee experience.

To ensure the learning experience is contextual for employees, TSC Macau, using our "TSC Total Solution Training Process", provide recommendations to your employees based on things such as their role, career path, and the learning they have previously being engaged in. This employee experience focused path assists in not only retaining talent in competitive markets, but also drives effective delivery of overall company performance. The experience provided to employees has a positive correlation to how effective employees are in meeting organisational goals.
